The Success of APIIT-Sri Lanka can be measured in several ways. The recognition of the quality student learning experience provided by Quality Assurance Agency, U.K, winning the World Bank Grant to enhance learning facilities, increasing demand for the British degree programmes offered by students from diverse backgrounds, student success at examinations conducted by external bodies, the recognition of the training provided by reputable international universities and the employability of graduates are some important indicators.

1. QAA Audit

The BSc (Hons) Computing degree programme conducted by APIIT have been audited by the Quality Assurance Agency of the United Kingdom. An audit team from the Quality Assurance Agency visited APIIT-Sri Lanka in May 2004 to appraise APIIT facilities and programmes as part of quality assurance of Staffordshire University degree programmes. The team inspected the facilities, examined the teaching processes and procedures in relation to the Computing Degree Programme and interviewed the students and staff.  The audit report, which is now available on the websites of QAA and APIIT-Sri Lanka, has commended the academic standards maintained and the quality of learning opportunities provided to students at APIIT. 

2. World Bank Grant

APIIT-Sri Lanka has been successful in winning a grant amounting to Rs. 22 million under the World Bank Project for ‘Improving Relevance and Quality of Undergraduate Education (IRQUE) in Sri Lanka.

The IRQUE Project is an initiative of the government of Sri Lanka to steer the tertiary education sector to produce graduates with the competencies required for Sri Lanka's economic and social development. This Project provides grants to higher education institutes to enhance the quality and relevance of undergraduate study programmes and thereby increase the employability of graduates. Grants are awarded through a highly competitive selection process. Of the 10 project proposals submitted by private higher education institutes and professional bodies in 2005, only the proposal from APIIT-Sri Lanka to improve its facilities has been accepted for funding.

The IRQUE grant is evidence of recognition by the government of APIIT contribution to higher education and manpower development in the country. The grant will supplement a sum of Rs. 40 million earmarked for investment by APIIT over the next 3 years to improve and expand its facilities. These investments will guarantee that APIIT facilities for teaching/ learning are maintained at the cutting edge.
3. Market leadership


The support extended by APIIT-Malaysia and Staffordshire University has been of significance in the development of APIIT-Sri Lanka as a centre of excellence in higher education. The Institute’s rapid progression during the last few years points to the internal strengths and the capacity for innovation and adaptation to the changing environment.

APIIT-Sri Lanka is proud to have emerged as the indisputable leader among private tertiary education providers in terms of attracting the largest number of applications from students to follow Computing/IT and Business Management degree programmes. The high demand for the British Degrees offered at APIIT-Sri Lanka is clearly evidenced by the number of students registering for the programmes; more than 200 students register for the main intake in September. With intakes in January and May, the annual student enrolment now exceeds 400.

4. Success at examinations


The majority of the students at APIIT-Sri Lanka have successfully graduated in their Diploma, Higher Diploma and Degree awards with above average results.
APIIT students and faculty both regularly receive commendation from Staffordshire University Examination Boards for student performance at examinations.

5. Seamless transfer of students to affiliated universities


Since the commencement of operations, a large number of students have transferred to affiliated universities in the UK and Australia after completing one year or two years of study at APIIT-Sri Lanka. The number of students who transferred to Staffordshire University alone exceeds 50. Students receive full credit transfers and settle down in their new environments comfortably; most of the students who transferred to foreign universities have achieved good results some receiving first class honours passes.

6. Employment


APIIT-Sri Lanka takes pride in having produced outstanding graduates who have successfully secured high profile placements in the industry. According to a recent study of alumni, APIIT-Sri Lanka graduates seem to find employment with ease. The study revealed that the average time lapse for securing first employment was 3 months with many finding gainful employment even before the Convocation. Many leading organisations in Sri Lanka such as MAS holdings, Virtusa, Millennium Information Technologies, Industrial Financial Systems and Unilever regularly employ APIIT graduates and APIIT receives encouraging feedback on their professionalism, competence, and attitude to work.
